Betfred Casino Sprint Trophy heats recap
Three 305m heats of the Betfred Casino Sprint Trophy were run on Monday. The top two hounds from each heat earned a spot in the £400 final which will be raced on November 8. Also running at Nottingham on Monday was the £400 Stadium Bookmakers 480m Trophy
Final.
Betfred Casino Sprint Trophy - Heat 1
It was the 1-2 race favourite, Rotar Wing, winning the first heat by 4½ lengths over Mick And Bernie with a time of 18.07 seconds. Wing was a heavy favourite in this race, and didn’t disappoint, coming out of the traps quickly and leading from the first
bend to the finish line. Bernie did well to earn second spot after a slow start.
Taking third place was Mill Norman, who finished just a ½ length behind Bernie, and in fourth was Winetavern Rocky. Fifth went to the longest shot of the race, 14-1 Zigzag Zodic, who just edged out Lode Explode to avoid last.
Betfred Casino Sprint Trophy - Heat 2
Bucks Yahoo earned a spot in the final with a huge 8-length victory over Blue Fox Warrior. The 1-3 race favourite won the race easily after getting off to an excellent start. He finished with the best time of the heats, a mark of 17.79.
Warrior was slow from the traps, and baulked on the first bend, but somehow managed to stay ahead of the third place finisher, Zigzag Ian, to earn a spot in the final. Drop Of Porter, the 14-4 longshot, took fifth place, and Trivial Pursuit’s pursuit was
trivial as he finished in dead last.
Betfred Casino Sprint Trophy - Heat 3
The third heat saw the third race favourite win as Slick Citi (4-9) won the last heat by 2¾ lengths over Shams Star with a time of 17.86. Citi took the lead on the first bend, and didn’t look back as he earned his spot in the final race.
Taking third place was Trudys Purse, who was slowed down on the first bend along with Salacres Meako, a 20-1 longshot, who finished the race in fourth place. In fifth was another longshot, Bat Wing at 33-1. Wing baulked on the first bend, and wasn’t able
to recover, but he did finish 1½ lengths ahead of last place finisher, Pineapple Tommy, who stumbled on the first bend.
Stadium Bookmakers 480m Trophy Final
It was the longest shot of the bunch, Reluctant (6-1), winning the Bookmakers Trophy by 4 lengths over Hee Haws Montana with a time of 28.70. Coolbrook Paddy held the early lead, but Reluctant took it from him on the second bend.
Paddy fell back to third place, a head behind Montana, and Final Boe took fourth. The 11-10 race favourite, Slick Boy, had a slow start and couldn’t move up the pack as he finished in fifth place.
Droopys Agatha was pulled from the race and not replaced.
