Okay, my male betta has a big bubble nest and my female has the white egg sack showing. I just put them together and nothing is really happening except they chase each other every now and then. I was wondering how long it would take until they mate and how I can tell when they are about to.

Thanks :-)

  1. Make sure the female has lots of places to hind or she will get tired out. Give them time and dont bother sitting there watching them. Mine ended up laying in the middle of the night.

  2. u wont know when they are ready he will just follow her around big time he has made a bubble nest because he is happy not only because he wants to mate hope this helps u out

  3. ph has to be 7.0 temp 80 degrees .

Need hideing place for female during this time as male will get agressive.

Both female and male will show vibrant colors and will circle under neath bubble nest IN A DANCE LIKE FASHION.

The male will wrap itself around the female while she dropps the eggs. The male will fertilize them.

FEMALE WILL FLOAT ON HER BACK WHILE THIS IS GOING ON.

NOTE : SHE IS NOT DYEING AND DO NOT REMOVE WHEN THIS ACTION ACCURES.

After female dropps all eggs and male tending to nest SPITTIN EGGS BACK INTO NEST.

Remove female as male will take over for young .

When young start to hatch and male will be picking up babys and spitting them back into nest.

Once you see a multitude of "fry" which the young are called and swimming about .

48 hours after seeing fry hatching remove male and begin to feed fry two to three times a day brine shrimp.

Note: Do not over feed and pollute water!!!!!

A bare bottom tank does best!

  4. the oviposter (white spot) is always visible. a truely conditioned female should be fat with eggs and have vertical bands, not just that white spot.

chasing is a natural part of the courtship but it can get out of hand and one or the other can get hurt or killed.

    have you read through this?
