Betta bubble nest help please

Well, I have a female betta in her own tank and have her beside my male bettas tank. I put a half styrofoam cup into his tank to hopefully try to get him to build a bubble nest. Hes been blowing bubbles but most of them pop. This morning, i looked into the cup and saw that the outside was covered with small bubbles. How long should it take approx to make his bubble nest? Maybe hes too old to be bred? I read somewhere that the longer his fins, the older he is. I have a picture of him here. http://s533.photobucket.com/albums/ee332/krysta127/?action=view&current=betta.jpg

Also, I thought I saw an egg popping out of her, but read that it was the breeding tube (i think) and shes a little bit fat in the middle. I also saw that she had the vertical striped on her that meant that she was interested in the male and they both were flaring, moreso with my male.

Thanks

  1. Wow! Beautiful betta! The thing about the fins being longer the older they get is not true. Once they grow their fins, that's as big as they get. It takes my betta about 1-2 days to make a full on bubble nest. It depends on your fish though. It may take up to a few days. It sounds like they are ready to mate from what you described. Good Luck!
