  1. You are obviously new to keeping Fish.  First, make sure you have a small tank with enough room for him.  1 gallon or more... little 'Betta' tanks are too small.  Give him a fake plant and/or a rock feature since he has to live there all the time.  He will rest on them a lot. Turn his light on when you get up and off when the Sun goes down.  The light is there to simulate Sunshine.  Buy him some Betta Pellets (Hikari Betta Bio-Gold are best.) and give him freeze dried blood worms 2 or 3 times a week.  Feed 6 pellets in a.m. and 6 more in early evening.  NEVER over feed.  Keep a small bottle of water conditioner on hand as you will want to use a few drops each time you do a water change... 1/4 to 1/3 of the tank twice a week.  If you want do less water changes you need to put a small internal filter in the tank.  The temperature for best health in Bettas is 80 to 84 degrees.  All fish swim a lot but your Betta will swim less if you give him a plant & a rock.

and the light is not even needed, it is for your own convenience. As long as you keep it in a place where there is normal naural lightind during the day.

  3. Definitely do NOT keep your light on 24 hours/day. It will stress out your new betta. I usually only keep the lights on 8-10 hours/day.

  4. Ya thats normal my mother has a betta and it gets all exited when she gets any where near him.By the way try feeding him the Multi-Vitamen Blood Worms bettas love those things.Oh, and don't put another betta in with him or something that reflets back it will kill him because thay fight.
