Can I put a female betta fish in my 5 gallon tank with a whisper filter? I had a goldfish in there before... but i think his fins got ripped by the filter. I turned down the flow of the filter but i'm worried that a female betta wouldn't be as strong as a goldfish and the filter would suck her up.

  1. She should be fine in that tank, her find might get ripped a lil

  2. 5 gallon is way bigger then what a betta needs. Betta only need like 1 liter of water which is 4 cups. they're pretty durable fish.

  3. A 5 gallon tank is fine for a Beta fish. The minimum, i think, should be 2.5 or 3 gallons so you have plenty. =]

  4. the goldfish probably died from amonia poisening, goldfish need 20 gallons for the first one and 10 per goldfish thereafter...yes even as tiny little babies!  amonia poisening will destroy fins!

your betta should be more than fine in there!  i have a prize winning male in my 5 gallon minibow hes been in there for 2 yrs and still going strong!

  5. You really don't need a filter for your betta but it does keep the water clear. remember their stomachs are 1/2 the size of their eyes so they eat very little so the water should not get too much debris in it. A five gallon is perfect size.  Have fun ...

  6. A 5 gallon tank would be great for a betta.  A female betta's fins aren't that long, and as long as she doesn't look like she's struggling to swim it should be fine.  Just remember, though, that bettas are tropical fish and need a heater.
