Yes I know I ask a lot of questions about betta fish ha ha...but I am thinking about finally getting one of my own and I need to know if the betta I get will harm and/or kill a bottom feeder if I happen to put one in the tank with him to control the bacteria in the tank. The tank will have a light and filter in it, I just want to keep my tank as clean as possible to ensure the health of my fish.

  1. betta=fighting fish...i wouldnt put anything else in there but i have on in a tank w/ a filter and he's been in there since December and the first time i cleaned his tank was this month and i didnt really have to i just thought it should be done...

  2. beta only attack other betas, it will be fine with the bottum feeder. i had a goldfish in with mine.

  3. Megan is right i breed fish Including bettas and I have a male in a tank with angelfish and pleco ECT.. and the MALE betta does not bother any of them he  pics a corner and stays there

  4. It will be fine if you put the beta with a bottom feeder. He/she won't mind him/her cleaning the tank. They can get along, from experience, with: Tetras,Plecos,Corydoras,Danios, and Barbs. I'm pretty sure they can get along with Mollies,Platys, and Swordtails, too. I'm not quite sure about MALE Guppies because your not supposed to mix them with any long finned fish because they might think that they're another Beta and will fight. So I'm a bit iffy about that.

Good Luck and have fun with your Beta!!!! XD

  5. A male betta would be fine with a bottom feeder but keep in mind that algae eaters and plecostamus get very large and should be kept in at least a 20 gallon tank or bigger.  You could get cory cats but they like to be kept in schools of 3 or more.  Also a bottom feeder will eat leftover food and a bit of algae.  If you feed a betta the pellets that they like properly there should be no leftover food falling to the bottom.

A bottom feeder doesn't clean up bacteria, in fact you want bacteria in your tank to maintain your nitrogen cycle.  The tank will need to be cycled before you add your fish as well.

A betta needs a 5 gallon heated filtered tank to live a good life.  They like the temperature to be about 80F and providing it with a large leafed plant gives it a place to rest near the surface.

  6. It won't hurt the bottom feeder. Just get a heater if you want a bottom feeder. Bettas are only aggressive toward other bettas. They are actually nipped at by most other fish. How big is the tank you want? If you want a bottom feeder get a heated 5 gallon tank, at least! You don't need a bottom feeder as long as you regularly clean the tank.   ;D Sam

  7. Bettas are only aggressive towards their own kind. You can put a betta with other fishes including bottom feeders, having bottom feeders like cory cat is a good addition to a betta tank, they will help clean up the tank of any uneaten food.

  8. bettas are very aggressive, is it male or female? females are less aggressive then males.
