and i have some questions....first of all, is feeding him 3 times a day good enough? I've never had a fish before. :P Also, i've heard that if you put 2 males together they will fight...well what if I put a female and a male together, will they for sure breed? Will they beat the c**p out of each other or love each other and then forget about it? I wanna be a grandpa. Haha

  1. Your betta only needs to be fed once or twice a day. either feed them four pellets in one serving or two pellets in the morning and two at night.

Males and females will fight. Usually the female will be the one who comes out second best. Breeding Bettas is costly, time consuming and takes a lot of time. It should not be attempted by beginner fish keepers. Here is a great site that should help:

    http://www.flippersandfins.net/bettabree...

    Good luck :)

  2. first feeding bettas 3times a day is WAYYY to much. 3-5 pellets daily tops and dont feed one day of the week,

    try this website:

    http://www.bettatalk.colm

females CANNOT  be kept with males and they wont breed if they are not conditioned, they will beat the c**p out of each other and one of them may end upt dead. To breed bettas you need to have the right conditions, bettas are complicated fish to breed, go to the websites and they tell you all about breeding bettas.

  3. Betta's don't need to eat much, maybe the equivalent of about 5 pellets a day.  Their stomach is only about the size of their eye to give you an idea.  So if you give them 2 pellets 3 times a day you can do that or just give it all at once, either way is fine but spreading it out is more natural.  Also, its a good idea to skip a feeding once a week so bettas don't get constipated which can kill them.

2 males will fight and a male and a female will also fight.  Basically you can only keep male bettas by themselves or with a limited choice of tropical community fish.  The females can be kept together in small schools of 5+ or with other peaceful community fish.

The process of breeding bettas is actually rather complex and requires a special setup, food, and filtration to be done correctly.  Also, eventually all the males in a spawn will have to be housed seperately and bettas can easily have several hundred fry in a single spawn, not something that the average person has the space or time for with doing water changes on some 50+ individual tanks for their male bettas.

If you just want a pretty looking companion your male betta will be quite happy on his own and actually prefers it that way :)

  4. Feed your fish 3 pellets once a day. your betta should be by him self or they will hurt each other.

  5. Yepp that's fine feeding them 3 times a day...if you put a 2 males together they will fight and if you put a male and female together the male will hurt the female unless they are ready to breed you can tell they are ready when the males fins are flaring to show off for the female and when he starts building a bubble nest that's what he will use to care for his eggs until the babies are born so if the male does this and if the female has vertical lines on her belly only then is when they are ready to breed also if you are not experienced in breeding don't do it you can seriously hurt you fish or kill them if you don't do it right it takes time even if they are ready 2 breed the female will go through some damage during the process so I suggest you don't do it just go and buy and baby beta many pet stores carry babies you can buy a male female and a baby but seperate all of them

  6. I had a female and a male at seperate times and they both had different feeding styles, one was a bottom feeder.  So, if you notice your fish getting fat, then cut back, but you can go to a PetsMart or a PetCo and ask someone there, they are VERY helpful.  Two betas together is not good, or so I have heard, I have never tried it, but there is a very tricky way to get them to breed.  And one could die in the process even if followed correctly.  Try this site http://www.ask-the-vet.com/breeding-bett...

  7. yea 3 times is good but i feed mine 2 times a day, flakes in the morning and pellets at night. also dont put a male with any other betta even a female as it will kill. if you have any questions email me.

  8. I have had a beta fish by itself and then a male and a female together- so I can help :]

First of all, you can feed them 2 times a day, at morning and afternoon, because they don't eat much- just a pinch.

And you CANNOT put 2 beta fish together- THEY WILL FIGHT!

Trust me, when I got a male and female, the pet store owner told me it would be o.k for them to be together in the bowl. But they did not get along and eventually the male killed the female, and tried to eat her.

So whatever you do, only get one. They make easy pets :]

  9. No you can NOT put a female in with him.  It actually takes a bit more work than just throwing a male and female together for them to mate.  Temperature has to be just right and a few other steps in there.  I've bred them before.   You DO know that its the male that takes care of the nest right?

Anyway.. as for feeding, they can go for about 12 days without food, the best feeding tho is once a day whatever they can eat in 5 minutes.

Preferably a special beta food over flakes, brine shrimp, blood worms are great treats.

And yes males do fight, they are also known as the siamese fighting fish.  Water needs to be changed regularly, do a google search on the care of bettas to learn more on the subject.  Betta's are air breathers therefore those cute little bowls with the plants at the top are NOT actually good for the fish, the surface of the water can be overcrowded with the root system and not allow the fish access to air.  There isnt any correlation between the plant and the fish or them being good for each other.

Make sure that u remove any uneaten food after 5 minutes to help keep the water clean and clear.  Uneaten food left in the bowl just rots and fouls the water can lead to illness in the fish.

  10. I fed my betta 2 pinches a day when i woke up and before i went to sleep he died from ick while i was on vacation

[my sister took care of him]

I'm not sure about the breeding thing but i know the females can be put with other fish and the males have to be kept separate

make sure you clean the tank out, and the enjoy having a plant in with them

  11. You really need to study breeding them. You could kill one of them. He could kill. Go on google and type hot to breed bettas. You will get a lot of info. But make sure you have a 5 gallon tank. :]

    Good Luck!
