Betta fish name...?

Question

I talk to my betta all the time and call him by his name. Do you think he knows who he is? I mean, hehe, that when I call his name, he knows it is him?

Silly question, but I am curious if they are capable to recognize their names. lol.

Probably not.... It's kind of sad. I depend on my bettas a lot because I can talk to them about my problems and they won't tell anyone! :) I wish my bettas knew their names...... I even blow them kisses and I pretend to pet them (I'm actually petting the tank! XP).

i doubt they know their own name.. or at least the name you've given them.. they probably have their own special names for each other!! lol

No, they like the attention, but don't know their name...they just want attention and food ;o) but I still call mine by his name too.

..the recognize shapes and also remember sounds, like your voice

....so, if he hears the same sound associated with attention and feeding, he likely 'knows' that sound, if it is his name or not

They may not recognize that you are calling there name but they certainly can recognize their owners voice in a respectable amount of time. They can desipher every individual voice in a household though.

no i doubt it. most fish aren't very smart. but talking to him might make him happy to have company.

sound doesn't travel through water at that volume so no. the betta would recognize you as a regular type of visitor but wouldn't recognize you as a person. i like to think they do though :)

I think yes, because they also have a feeling so, everytime you make that sound he can feel it, but if he doesn't know you, he cannot know himself.
