Question:

Betta fry hatched, but so far they aren't hanging from the nest...?

I know the eggs hatched because the fry are falling and the male is picking them up and putting them back in the nest. I can see their tails and some of them try to swim upward once in a while.

I'm confused because I see NO TAILs hanging from the nest. Does that mean something is wrong?

  1. If you look at this link, it shows a fry at three weeks where you can finally see the tail.  I think you have very early babies and they are not completely formed yet.  Give them time.

The second link will tell you what to expect in the first 5 days.  Good luck!

  3. No, it just means that the babies are very small and the bubblenest has big bubbles, so their tails don't hang down and show.  It's no big deal, so don't panic.  If you can see the babies and they are moving and the male betta is picking them up from the bottom and returning them to the bubblenest, all is going well and is as it should be.  Not all bubblenests have the same size of bubbles.  It depends on how soft or hard your water is.  Softer water allows the betta to make bigger, more cohesive, sticky bubbles.
