  1. It could be fin rot.  Are his fins receding/dissolving?  How's your water quality?  You may need to pay some special attention to make sure it stays at its best.  Poor water quality causes fin rot.

It also could be red pigment, common on white Bettas.  Did this fish have the red when you first saw him (NOT in the picture - picture could have been photoshopped)?  If it is simply red pigment, there is nothing you can do.  It is not harmful to the fish, but you may want to confront the breeder if they sold it to you as a totally white fish; because it isn't.

If not, work with the water quality.

If you find that it is fin rot, Maracyn 1 (and 2) work well.  Find at most pet stores.  It is an anti-fungal medication.

  2. Oh, that is terrible, I hope he gets better soon. This will explain why he isn't eating.  :o(

  3. It looks like you may be dealing with minor septicemia, which is very common in fish kept in small or poorly maintained tanks...  The best thing you can do for him at the moment is continue to do daily water changes until you can get your hands on a real medication (Maracyn TC, Maracyn 2, Furan 2, Triple Sulfa, Trisulfa, Kanaplex, Metronidazole, Hexamit, or Flagyl).  Also, discontinue the salting-- the bacteria responsible for septicemia are entirely resistant to salinities even as high as full saltwater.

EDIT: Fin rot is almost always a bacterial infection, usually caused by the same bacterium as septicemia (mentioned above).  Maracyn and Maracyn 2 are NOT antifungals, but antibacterials, and really, Maracyn (1) is almost entirely useless against these gram negative bactera.  Also, Ich would appear as small, salt-like pustules on the fish, NOT red spots!

EDIT 2: Fin rot rarely causes redness, but septicemia (caused by the same bacterium) often accompanies fin rot and will cause redenning.

  4. he seems to have dropsy, there is little u can do,give proper medications.he may have fin rot.

  5. To me it looks like he has some kind of bacteria infection or parasite. Most likely a parasite. It actually looks like Ick to me.  What you should do is raise the temperature of the water and add parasite medication. That should ake care of the problem. If not you should take him to the vet and see what else it could be. But it definantley looks like a parasite indection which needs to be treated ASAP or it could be fatal.

    Hope i helped:]]

  6. It looks like it may have a type of bacterial fin rot (not all fin rot is caused by a fungus).  The bacteria might have caused the fish to show signs of dropsy.  Treat it for the bacteria and hope that helps.

Also, try changing the water.  High pH could cause the fins to fray too.
