My betta Tommy was fine in the morning and just right now i looked at him and his eye is huge, red , with a grayish outer edge . And i looked up pop eye but none of the fishes had big red spot where the pupil should be . So what is it ,and is he going to die ? I started him on Maracyn allready . So my question is it pop-eye or something else .

Thank you

  1. Pop eye can leave the fish, especially the eyes, very open to infection.  There is a good chance that you're seeing pop eye and secondary hemorrhaging from Aeromonas species.  A combination of Maracyn and Maracyn 2 would be a very good choice of treatment, effective against both the gram positive pop eye and gram negative septic infection.  Be sure to remove the carbon from the filter, and when treating with Maracyn 2, keep the tank dark, as it degrades with exposure to light.

  2. That's a beautiful fish! And what is may be is popeye, which is a common fish disease. I'm not sure off the medicine you mention, does it treat that? You could also put your fish in a large plastic bag with some water and take him to petco for a better diagnostic of what is wrong.
