Question:

Betta spawning questions?

ive already conditioned the male and female betta.

the female is very fat and the one bump has appeared and she has vertical lines so i know she is ready.

my male has not made any bubblenest yet tho.

so how do i know when he is ready?

ive already introduced them in the spawning tank. the female was in the hurricane lantern and the male was in the actual tank

they both flared at eachother and swam around.

its only been 1 day.

how long should i wait to let the female out of the hurricane lantern.

what if my male doesnt make a bubble nest during that time?

should i still let him out?

would he end up makeing the bubblenest with the female out of the hurrican lantern?

ive done alot of research but nothing has really explained this situation.

thanks!

  1. I haven't done any research or anything but in reply to anthony's post...

I have always heard that the males care for the babys and take very good care of them.. and after they breed you take the female out of the tank that has the male and the eggs....

  2. You can use a little floating debris to help give the male something to anchor his bubblenest to.  Without the nest the eggs will just lay on the bottom and not hatch.  You'll have to wait for him to build his bubblenest.  It might take a couple days before that little light goes on in his head, oh yes!  Bubblenest time!

Its only been 1 day, give it time and have a little patience, you wouldnt want to rush things either if you were them ;)

Leave the female where she is for now untill the male has his nest.  If he doesnt build one at all he might not be suited to breeding, it happens.

  3. let her out and see how they act. if they attck each other then just take the female out. if they dont attack each other then they will probably spawn.

  4. Well beta fish are very hard to spawn but it appears that you've done your research very well. It seems all ready but I know from experience that the males do need help building their nests. A disposable cup cut in half, placed bottom end out(into the tank) and tape securing the side close to the glass should do the trick. Just keep in mind that due to the VERY aggressive nature of the male beta that your female has a higher chance of dieing in foreplay than actually getting to have kids. Also keep in ming that since they are curious fish the male might eat most of the eggs, so you should put a net or divider in the tank and put the eggs there for safe keeping. PS once they have "done the deed" it would be best to seperate the male from everyone and thing so he doesn't create any problems.
