ive had my betta with my african dwarf frog for quite a while now and they seemed to not mind each other at all. well.... today i looked at the tank, and half of my betta's tail is gone!!!! could my dwarf frog eat the bettas tail??

NOTE: i am Positive that it is a dwarf frog and not calwed frog. its front legs are webbed, and he is just under an inch long

NOTE 2: my betta does not have fin rot. it used to when i got it from the store a long time ago, but its been treated. the tail was looking beautiful before half of it was ripped of due to an unknown cause.

NOTE 3: there are no sharp/ fake plants. the only plants in the tank are several live bamboo stalks. it is in a heated large tank (about 80 degrees) with water that is clean. It Is Not In A Vase!

NOTE 4: lastly, the betta is still very active and still flares when i put the mirror. i know my fish is still very healthy dispite the ripped tail, i just want to know if i just happen to have a very aggressive dwarf frog.

Thanks!!

  1. Actualy it could have been the dwarf frog. Sometimes if the betta is moving slowly near the bottom of the tank the dwarf frog will misteak his tail for a worm and lung at it. He could have very well bitten off part of his tail. I say feed the frog extra bloodworms every day and get him a friend. They are very social...just like humans! And no they are not shy!

  2. NO  it wouldn`t have been the dwarf frog as they are shy and hide away most of the time a frog will not attack or eat any of the beta fish as the beta is bigger than the frog trust me i have frogs and have had them for 2 years now ,it may have an internal bacteria infection  you can get a treatment from the name that i have said made by inter-pet because i know a dwarf frog will not do this to your beta
