My betta started showing signs of fin rot about a 2 months ago. I added aquarium salt and did frequent water changes, it cleared up and his tail started to grow back. Then about 3 weeks ago it started again. I changed his water washed his gravel and put more aquarium salt in. It started to look much better but is now getting progressively worse. I'm guessing he'd had it before i got him because his tail and fins were clear towards the bottom. I don't want to put any medications in with him because i've heard they do more bad than good. Any suggestions?

You should be cleaning his water daily or twice daily depending on the size of his tank as you treat his fin rot with medication. A betta fish who is always kept in clean, healthy water does not get fin rot. If you don't have a water testing kit, you should get one.
