  1. after the fish spawned, you were supposed to leave the male with the eggs to care for them, keep up the bubble nest, and pick up any eggs that fall. it sounds like you have removed the male, the eggs dont have much of a chance, try putting him back in.

  2. When you breed labyrinth fishes, like bettas, you need to remove the female shortly after the eggs are laid.  The pair will pick up the eggs that fall and replace them into the bubble nest.  The male maintains the bubble nest, and should be left with the eggs until they hatch.  Once the eggs hatch and the fry are free-swimming, the male will protect them for a very short period of time.  Then he will eat them, so the fry should be removed to another tank.  The fry are so small they need to be fed liquid food until they can handle newly hatched brine shrimp.   They will also get sucked into aquarium filter intakes, so don't use one in the fry tank.   Breeding bettas can be fun and rewarding--but it's a lot of caretaking once the eggs are laid.  Check with other breeders in your area, as well as knowledgeable pet store associates.  They can be a lot of help.
