  1. I am not so sure about that. Why do you think so?

  2. Australians

  3. Let us have our moment of glory.  Or, even better let's join together and take on America.

  4. Let's see: Great Britain 61 million people. Australia 20 million. Australia 39 medals, GB 40 medals. So GB needs 3 people to find one who is able to beat 1 Australian.

I didn't do the calculation excluding North Ireland, Scotland and Wales....

  5. Easy - Australia - for a nation of 20 million we punch way above our weight all the time.  We are sandwiched in the top 5 on the medal tally bewteen Russia, USA, China and UK - the difference in population is staggering - we shouldnt even be there!

  6. like the english bloke said about his own country last night

"most of the uk medals just about come from rowing, cycling and sailing. So they are very good at sitting down."

  7. Australia of course, poms can only get their medals from riding bikes

  8. I would say Australia. :)

  9. Australia. I like the comment from someone who said that the british only get medals from lying/ sitting down lol. I agree it does show off our laziness.

  10. I'm English but even I will admit Australians are generally better sportsmen than us. Sport in Australia is huge, kids are constantly playing it whereas here they are more concerned with their PlayStation's or hanging around the streets. We are almost accustomed to losing to them so when we beat them in the odd rugby world cup final or Ashes it makes it extra sweet. How is England a bit of a joke? you do realize if we were competing as England we would STILL be ahead of Australia on the medal table? As i write this Tim Brabants has just won gold in the 1000m kayak flat water final, the Aussie came third, Oh well!

  11. England.  Australians are only good at one thing, and they're not even that good at it.

  12. After getting no golds at the Montreal games in 1976 the Aussies followed the East German / eastern bloc way of identifying potential talent and applying intensive training regimes and pumping loads of money into sport (Australian institute of sport). this influx of cash had immediate results on the subsequent Olympiads

Now that Britain is spending serious money on sport they don't like the fact that we are having some success. Get over it!!

if it goes down to per-capita Jamaica and even the Kiwis knock you lot right out of the water!!!

as for the cycling jibe, you weren't moaning about the Aussie cycling medal haul at the last Olympics in athens were you?

I'm Scottish by the way and lived in Australia for 5 years in the 1980's. Aussie tv coverage of the 1984 Olympics - you would have thought Australia were the only country there.
