They're both underrated drummers of great skill, who can play all sorts of jazz as well as rock.  I prefer Charlie Watts because I prefer the band he plays in, and I've never been fond of either's solo work - but I would find it hard to say either is technically better than the other.  Great question!

Phil Collins!

Charlie is good, but does not cover the variety of styles that Phil Collins plays. Also, it is all in the feel and spirit of it all. Phil gives his whole self when he plays and whether he plays a 7/8 or a simple 4/4, the power and spirit that comes through is incredible!

Phil Collins does not play drums, he gives them life and makes them sing!
