Question:

Better off without humans?

Well i've been thinking lately. Us humans have screwed up everything for all the other creaturs that share the planet with us. I mean we think we own the planet. But if you put time into one clock, we've been on earth for a mere mila second! There were creatures way before we were even here. And we are s******g up billions of years of evolution in the making for almost every single animal. So we put all these animals in danger from activities we do everyday all day... Its almost like we've become too smart for our own good..with all this technology.

And i've heard that scientists believe we will also cause our own extinction. If not from war heads and what not, then slowly by heating up our planet where humans can no longer adapt...even though this will be sooo far in the future..I just think it would be better off if we were never here to begin with.. i know ppl usually dont think this deep...but...lol i do ^^ so what do u think about these thoughts??=3

  1. dumb Adam , why did he have to sin against God

  2. Would our planet be better off without us? This is a difficult question because we don't know what would have taken our place as the dominant species on this planet were it not for our biological niche being filled by us. Have you ever seen Godzilla, Jurassic park, Evolution? They are all about what would happen if something else took our place on this planet. I'm not saying that we're great for this planet but it could be worse. Also, humans have done so much good too. Every planet will eventually reach it's end. Would the other entities in the universe morn the loss of a planet that had not achieved the many great and wonderful things humans have done? Think of all the art, all the amazing and beautiful architecture. What would our planet be without the joy and suffering and passion of our lives? We also know what we are doing to this planet and many of us are trying rectify the damage done by careless people. Final answer: How can anyone really know?

  3. Perhaps many other living forms would have been better with out, e.g., the dodo, the passenger pigeon.  Some species have done well by humans, e.g., the domestic cat, the domestic dog, pigeons, rats.

Nevertheless, for the rest of the planet, we could walk a lot easier.  The best way is to humanely and voluntarily reduce the population of the planet.  With appropriate positive incentives, e.g., education and economic betterment, we could persuade women to have fewer children.  The world would be so much better off we had one woman-one child for two generations.

  4. This is a possibility, as humans are now evolving their environment rather than evolving TO our environment, we are no longer ruling out the inferior traits in our genetic material. Normally, when a virus or something would come, it would take out the inferior members of a species, leaving the superior genes behind to reproduce. With modern medicine, however, even those with mutations can survive and reproduce. If there were to be an outbreak of influenza or some other disease, it could be devastating. Something like this could happen even sooner than increased temperature, but probably not to the extent that humans would be extinct, just massively damaging.

Our technologies have in fact gotten to the point where they could be immensely harmful.

Either way, the Earth is itself doomed eventually, when the Sun dies and engulfs the planet in many million years.

  5. All of the oil and coal and gas that we are now burning is releasing massive amounts of CO2. And that may or may not be a greenhouse gas, and we may or may not be causing climate change.

However, all of the CO2 we are releasing used to be in the air anyway. We're just putting it back there.

Humans will survive in one form or another, we've survived several ice ages, and if the world heats up we'll survive that too, perhaps by moving away from the equator. Though even the worst climate change predictions are only an increase in global temperature by a few degrees.

Before humans came along, the Earth was no better or worse, it was just different. Millions of years ago there was FAR more CO2 in the air, but life flourished.

Why shouldn't humans be selfish? Look around, we own the place, we can control all the other animals, the animals don't seem to mind.

Worst case scenario, we blow ourselves up in a nuclear war (very unlikely at this point), and the entire planet becomes lifeless. How is that any different from now? The Earth is still here, spinning in space, just like it was before for billions of years, only less stuff moves around on the surface. It's no better or worse, just different. When's the last time anyone took a look at Venus in horror because there's no life there? Venus is just like Earth, but a little closer to the sun, and with a corrosive atmosphere.

The only question we need to bother ourselves with is, "What is better for humans?"

Sadly people don't tend to think about that too hard, and they get stuck at the borders of their particular country. The Earth would be a much much better place (for humans) if everyone thought globally.

  6. I agree completely. The planet and all other inhabitants would be a lot better off without us. We're very selfish and will take anything if it improves our way of life, and we're also ignorant in the fact that this will eventually cause us our extinction.

  7. Instead of thinking like this in a negative way I think "What is my duty as a RESPONSIBLE HUMAN BEING in correcting the bad doings of the HUMAN RACE?"

  8. little too much discovery channel?

  9. Yes I agree with your logic even though there are always pros and cons to every situation. Anyway I wanna congratulate you for this fantastic question, lol

  10. Whether humans are a contribution to the earth or not, we exist for a reason. Aren't you glad you've had the chance to experience this wonderful world and everything it has to offer? Humans have done many harmful things to this world, but they have also contributed the same about of good, if not more. As far as humans causing their own extinction....all good things must come to an end
