Kumar Sangakkara, the ex-Captain and a prominent batsman of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, and has stressed them to improve performance in the coming fixtures, to remain in the
series.
Australia is 2-0 up in the five-match ODI series, and looked totally in command of the games they played against the Lankan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808.
Sri Lanka was dominant in the two Twenty20 matches, which they won comfortably and posed a threat for visitors in the rest of the series.
The Kangaroos came back strongly in the ODIs, winning both the opening games and are one match away from a series victory.
Sri Lanka was unable to utilise the full quota of 50 overs in both matches and their batting struggled against the quality bowling of Australia.
They were bowled out for 191 runs in 41.1 overs on August 10, 2011, at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
The visitors chased the target easily, scoring 192 runs with 11.5 overs to spare, losing three wickets.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 contributed 53 runs each.
The second ODI at Hambantota, was also won easily by the Australians as they restricted the home side to 208 runs with three balls to spare.
They scored the required runs in 38.2 overs, for the loss of two wickets. Ponting displayed fine batting by posting unbeaten 90 runs, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 was consistent with unbeaten 58 runs and Watson scored 43 runs at the top order.
Sangakkara praised the performance of the Australian batsmen, who remained composed in both matches, saying,
"The Aussies have been able to apply sustained pressure on our batsmen and our inability to post competitive totals means that we have not been able to do the same to their batsmen. Ponting, Shane http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 and Clarke batted through both matches without the
pressure of a challenging required run-rate."
Sangakkara gave an inspiring performance in the second ODI, scoring 52 runs, as no other batsman was able to reach the 50-run mark in both matches.
He warned them of the series loss, in case they do not reassess their batting abilities in the next ODI by saying,
"Another batting failure and we are now left with lots to do to keep the series alive," "We need to somehow regroup tomorrow (Tuesday),"
The third ODI will be played on August 16, 2011, at Hambantota again, and Sangakkara believes his team will make a comeback in the series by winning that game.
