Better to Wait Tables as a Male?

In my restaurant, we pool our tips and we are all very friendly with each other. In turn, I like to bust their chops because my tip percentages are generally higher than theirs. I do not care as we all help each other and it is all in good fun especially since I am the only full-time one there so I have a decided advantage in that I see many of the diners once, twice a week or more.

However, one girl mentioned that being a guy helps in that people would rather be served by a man. I can't believe that to be true. Am i just naive?

I don't think it matters. It's all in how good the waiter or waitress is. I will say this though, back in the day when I was a single teenager I would have much rather been waited on by a guy. But that didn't have anything to do with good service.

That's simply not true at all!  And this is coming from a g*y man who happens to enjoy it when a good looking guy is waiting on my table.  However, it is WAY more important for me to be waited on well by either s*x.  And my partner and I just got home from dinner where all of the servers are young females, and they are all excellant!  I even told my partner that I hate it when they are so good, because it means I have to leave a higher tip. (It would just be wrong not to.)

We eat out almost every night, because I hate to cook, and he's tired when he gets home from work.  So we compare restaurants and servers.  We find that there is no pattern of men being better servers than women.

Depends on how old you are. I tip more money to older guys assuming they have a family to support. Having return guests helps a lot!! The more you get to know someone, the more they feel a better tip is deserved. Everyone loves a CHEERS atmosphere!!

to me it really shouldn't matter i think what really matters is that the person who is waiting the customer is very nice

I'm a beautiful, polite, friendly, accurate waitress and the average, sized 14 American woman is often times simply to jealous of me to tip properly. Would a male have the same problem? Don't think so.
