Betting Odds: Sony Open 2011 – Part 2
We continue our betting odds for the Sony Open 2011 in this second part.
Ernie Els
Another veteran who will come in handy at the Waialae Country Club! Ernie Els fulfils the first criterion of being a veteran to compete on the par-72 course. With an experience of 22 years as a professional, handling the curvy terrains of Waialae will not
be a problem.
Secondly, the long stature of the South African will work wonders in standing firm against the strong winds. However, the basic reason for him qualifying the list is his strong form. The 41-year-old won the World Golf Championships-CA Championship and Arnold
Palmer Invitational at the start of 2010 and carried his winning charms to Bermuda where he became the Champion of Champions.
Apart from the strong form, the veteran shows a fabulous record in the event and that too on the same course. He has two victories, one runner-up spot, one fifth and one seventh spot in last seven attempts. The strong formation predicts a fair understanding
between the queen of challenges and the conqueror.
This ease at understanding gives way to admiration for the course by the 6 ft 3” tall hunk. In fact, Els once dubbed the course as one of his favourite stops on the tour. He said, “You know, the great thing here is the kids have a great time, and we stay
on the golf course here so it feels really relaxed. I really like the greens here, they are really fast. They are quicker than they are at Kapalua. It is a golf course where you've got to be patient. You can't go out there and hit the ball as hard as you can
and go for everything, and you've got to play proper golf.”
Els mentioned approbation for faster greens in his statement, which holds true to date. The two-time winner of the US Open has no match when he is putting and rolling the ball on fast greens.
Carl Pettersson
The next veteran on the betting list is the one who finished fourth at the Tournament of Champions in the first week of January 2011. The strong finish suggests a strong form, which is likely to continue on this course.
Moreover, the Swede topped the putting stats, which means if the driver dumps him during the windy and overcast conditions, then his putter will definitely save him.
Looking at his past visits to the venue, one sees a top-five finish in first two handicaps. The strong bond between the Swede and Waialae CC binds us to the notion that another high finish is expected for him in 2011.
Chad Campbell
The last punter likely to finish high is a regular at Waialae Country Club. The veteran is a member at the course, which means he knows the course better than anybody else.
His punctuality earned him a runner spot in 2006, tenth in 2008 and eight in 2010. One must be thinking why he did not show up in 2009. Well, the answer to this question is quite hilarious. The punter flew all the way to Hawaii from Texas and found out upon
reaching the course that he had not registered for the event!
Nonetheless, like Els and Kelly, he is stable in windy conditions. The only reason behind this statement is his upbringing, which was done in the windy terrains of Texas.
