Golf Special Report: Betting Odds on the Alfred Dunhill Championship
Charl Schwartzel and Louis Oosthuizen are ready to hit irons this week on the fairways of the Alfred Dunhill Championship, which will take place at the Kruger National Park in South Africa.
After conquering St Andrews in July, this will be Oosthuizen's first full-field tournament and will definitely demonstrate his form, which has been affected by his ‘famous’ ankle injury. The South African broke his ankle, while
being a little too adventurous. However, he showed some positive signs on the greens of the Dubai World Championship, but faltered once again at the NedBank Championship, due to an upset stomach. If everything goes in his favour, chances are that Oosthuizen
might triumph at the course.
For now, here is a betting preview of the tournament.
Thomas Aiken
He is a South African, which gives him an edge on the field. Moreover, the long-hitter made a score of 61 on the same venue, few years ago. These facts set him apart from the field and chances are that he will strike again.
The player started very slow in the NedBank Challenge, but picked up pace by the end of the weekend. He was four clear at one point, but dropped a couple of shots, and slipped to a tie for fourth spot.
Aiken has been winless on the European Tour, but holds a couple of titles on the Sunshine Tour. Africa has been his winning ground and if Aiken manages a victory here, he will earn a debut victory on the European Tour as well.
Jbe' Kruger
Kruger seized three-second place finishes on the Asian Tour in 2010 and to spice his stats, he carded a victory at the Africom Zimbabwe Open.
Moreover, the veteran is third on the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit and only recently, finished in the top-10 in the Indian Open. What sets him a part of the betting odds is his statement, which he made in India. He said, "I am
really playing well and everything has come together. My ball striking is so good."
Michiel Bothma
The veteran from Pretoria is sixth on the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit. Moreover, he has not missed out on this tournament ever since its start in 2000, which makes him a veteran on the field.
Moreover, he holds a superb record on the Leopard Creek, where he has successfully made the cut for the sixth time. Apart from appearances, the veteran finished with four top-40s and a Top 17 last year.
Colin Nel
Third on the betting odds is a rookie, who is in form to strike a pose with the trophy. The 27-year old made his way out of the Qualifying School by taking a lead of eight strokes over the field and now is ready to take over the
European Tour.
Rafael Cabrera-Bello
The last golfer on the betting odds is a Spaniard and what makes him a challenger is his performance on the course. The veteran made commendable finishes on the course finishing twice at T25, chased it with a T4 in the fourth trip,
and T35 in the last.
Moreover, he performed superbly in the Singapore Open, which means he is in the kind of form to make a debut victory.
This is it for the betting odds of the Alfred Dunhill Championship, which will kick off on the 9th
of December at the Leopard Creek Course in South Africa. The par-72 course is considered as the number one course in the area and thrice has been conquered by a Spaniard. Who will win the tournament? Will it be a rookie, who has recently graduated from
the Q- School, or a veteran who won the Open Championship, but failed to conquer Dubai?
