Question:

Betting on Win/Place/Show?

I was curious how important is the dollar amount when betting. Say for example I'm betting on the top 4 odds in that particular race. Is there a dollar amount that you would have to bet to insure a break-even point if only 1 or 2 of the horses make a payout?

If that is confusing or doesn't make any sense let me know I can clarify.

  1. Your question is a little confusing.

Basically there is no set amount that will ensure that you break even. The payouts for win/place/show depend upon how much money is in each win/place/show pool. It all depends on the betting public, how much they bet and which horses/dogs they bet on. It differs from race to race.

On a side note, betting on the top 4 odds in a particular race is not the best strategy because if all underdogs come in (i.e. the Belmont where Big Brown didn't run) then you come up a big loser.

The key is not to bet on the best odds. It is to find a mild longshot who has a good shot to finish in the top 3.

    Good luck!!

  2. It really depends on the odds of the horses you are betting on.  A quick reference guide that will help you out is located at http://GamblingReviewsSite.com/horsebett...
