Betting preview: Johnnie Walker Championship
The last gamble for the Ryder cup team selection is here and it is the Johnnie Walker Championship that is taking place at the Gleneagles this week from 23rd to 29th August, 2010.
If the championship is here then so are the bettors with their betting lists. So, here are the players that are perceived to be in the top 6 of the leader board on the brink of Sunday night.
Ross McGowan, Simon Dyson and Alvaro Quiros
When Miguel Angel Jimenez decided to play on the greens of Gleneagles, at the same time a trio of powerful contenders rose up to give the player run for his points. These three players are Ross McGowan, Simon Dyson and Alvaro Quiros. Out of them, McGowan requires top 2 finish whereas the other two need a victory. According to media reports, Quiros is the player who has the strongest position so far amongst them. The first thing that can work to his advantage is the stress and an urge to win. This worked for Peter Hanson at the prosper resorts, why won’t it work for the Spanish? Quiros has the talent and the right kind of attitude to seize this opportunity and this statement can be well justified by his performance to reclaim his national title last May. He gracefully entered the play-off against James Morrisonan and bought the title home.
However, there is a hunch that might not go in his favor which is the weather forecast. Rain is expected for the next four days with heavy winds. This means there will be delays and lots of bogeys. Hence, Quiros can be stuck by the elements of nature but it should be kept in mind that he had earlier played at Loch Lomond and St. Andrews in terrible weather conditions while still managing to do well.
Brett Rumford, Jamie Donaldson and Alastair Forsyth
The other trio of contenders presumed to be on top of the leader board consists of Brett Rumford, Jamie Donaldson and Alastair Forsyth.
The Australian, Rumford is expected to be the best amongst them. The reason behind this prediction is his ability to cope with bad weather conditions. The player has a record of delivering some very good performances in Scotland and Ireland where the weather severity knows no bounds. Rumford also has a consistent relationship with Gleneagles as he has been practicing on the course and has posted a score of top 10 there in the past. So on the whole, the player has all his cards to make up for his lost cut at the Czech open last week. Moreover, he finished in the top 2 at the Ballantine’s Championship earlier this year and that too was in very wet conditions.
Moving to Jamie Donaldson, he is yet another contender with a nerve of steel for bad weather. As for his achievements, he had 6 top 10 finishes this season which means he has a clear chance of yet another good finish.
The last one on the betting preview list is Alastair Forsyth, who has an advantage of home ground. Regarding his achievements, he finished in top 20s in last week’s western Isle Open Sea angling championship and has a record of 3 top 7 finishes this season. As for his weather management ability, only one statement is enough which says that Forsyth is from Paisley. This means he has grown up on the fields with fog and rain.
This is it for the betting preview of the Johnnie Walker Championship. According to experts, this is the last event of the season which will decide on who is going to make the cut to Ryder cup team and who won’t. So keep your fingers crossed and wait till Sunday evening when Colin Montgomerie announces his list of players.
