Bettor's picks for the World Golf Championship-Bridgestone Invitational – Part1
World Golf Championship-Bridgestone Invitational is ready to hit the par-70 Firestone Country Club on August 4, 2011 and will run through 7th of this month. The last event of the four-legged series will witness top guns of the world compete for
the title. Which ten players will finish in the top ten? Here is a look at the betting odds.
1. Steve Stricker
The American is familiar with the course; he has two Top 10 finishes in the last two years. Since Firestone has not changed much in the last two seasons, one can apprehend that Stricker’s performance will be consistent this year as well.
Secondly, the veteran is a two-time winner on the PGA Tour, which means that he is carrying the right kind of form. Looking at Stricker’s form and past affinity with the course it is suggested that he will finish in Top 10.
2. Tiger Woods
The Tiger hasn’t swung his club since May and hasn’t won an event for 19 months now, however, he still has an outside edge over the rest of the field owing to his record at Firestone; he is a seven-time winner of the event. Moreover, the course has his picture
displayed all over the place for his phenomenal performances in past decade.
The warm welcome will definitely lift Woods’ morale, which will serve as a cornerstone in his performance. However, his last visit to the course was devastating. He failed to break par in all four rounds and finished second last in a field of 80 players.
3. Adam Scott
The Aussie Scott is on fire and will be the man to watch out for. He finished as a runner-up at the Masters, third at the AT&T National and sixth at the Cadillac Championship. Moreover, in his 12 total starts he finished thrice in Top 10. The stats are impressive
and they lead to a conclusion that the player is carrying a very strong form.
In addition to that, his swings are long and straight, which is the prerequisite of making the cut at Firestone. Scott’s game suits the course layout too, as his stats show an accuracy of 64 percent in driving and 66 percent in Green Hits in Regulations.
The Aussie finished ninth last year at Firestone, so the chances of him finishing in the Top 10 are high.
Interestingly, Scott will be facing Woods for the first time after the 14-major winner’s caddie started working with the Aussie. Woods and Williams parted with a bitter taste in their mouth, especially Williams, who thought he was treated with disrespect.
The caddie will be hoping for Scott to deliver in the event, as that should send a strong message towards Woods regarding what he’s missing.
