Bettor Dot Com impresses connections in Sussex Cup Trial Stakes
Bettor Dot Com impressed connections with a three-and-a-half length victory at Hove last night in a trial stake for the upcoming Coral Sussex Cup. The competition will be the first four-bend race for over a month and boasts an impressive winner’s prize of £10,000.
Trainer Tony Lucas mentioned yesterday to Bettor.com that a good break would be the decisive factor in the race and he was absolutely spot-on.
Bettor Dot Com (5-1) was the fastest out of the traps in the 20:18, and topped it up with an excellent sectional time leaving only Seamus Cahill’s Zaheer in the frame as a threat.
Zaheer, who also broke well, led to the third bend until badly baulked which made victory for Bettor Dot Com slightly easier, leaving him to complete the 515m in a time of 29.96sec.
Lucas said: “Things are getting exciting now as the youngster is starting to show great signs of improvement.”
“The opening heats for the Sussex Cup begin on the 15th July and I believe he stands every chance.”
Ballymac William will start as the favourite without a doubt in the ante-post markets after winning the Coral Olympic at Hove last month.
The Carly Philpott-trained charge ran last night in the 21:07, and won in a stylish manner after clocking the fastest time-on-the-night 29.55sec.
Other winners of the night were Useful Asset who took the 19:30 in a time of 30.00sec, whilst Doitfordawn took the 19:46 in 29.94sec.
The second set of trial stakes are scheduled to take place next week at Hove before the final 36 are selected to compete in the actual Sussex Cup.
