Formula 1 is becoming more and more exciting with each passing season; some of the people going as far as saying that the F1 community is currently witnessing the golden era of the sport. Meanwhile, F1 has become as much unpredictable as it is thrilling.
The last three seasons have been dominated by the Austrian team Red Bull Racing and their ace German driver Sebastian Vettel. The 2012 F1 season was once again successful at providing the fans with epic entertainment. It was the first season in F1 that featured
twenty races across the globe. It has left many memorable incidents in the mind of the F1 followers.
Like all the other seasons before, it was full of unforgettable moments and disappointing moments as well. Some were able to make history; some made improvement while others were seen struggling. A few drivers marked the beginning of their F1 career while
others finally had to bid farewell.
Bettor.com now reviews the 2012 F1 season which will be remembered by the F1 community for a long time.
Champion of the season
Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel continued his winning streak that he started in the 2010 F1 season to become the youngest triple world champion.
He began the season with struggling performances unlike his sheer domination of the drivers’ grid in the previous season. Vettel was seen far off his pace as he tried to gain control of his Adrian Newey designed RB8. His performance kept going up and down
while teammate Mark Webber was contending for the championship. He could only win only one Grand Prix in the first half of the season namely the Bahrain GP. It seemed unlikely that Vettel will be defending his championship.
However, Vettel resurged during the second half of the season finally taking control of the RB8 which turned out to be the quickest car on the grid by the end of the season. He took away the championship lead from Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso by winning four
consecutive races from the Singapore GP to the Indian GP. Despite failing to win the last three races of the season and also facing some critical situations, he beat Alonso by three points to take his third consecutive F1 championship.
F1 team of the year
There is no doubt that the team of the year was Red Bull Racing. Having a championship winning driver like Vettel partnered by a skilled Mark Webber and aided with the quickest car on the grid, it was impossible to stop the team from winning the constructors’
championship for a third year in a row. Red Bull has now become the fourth team in the history of F1 to have secured such an achievement following Ferrari, McLaren and Williams F1. The team is most likely to dominate in the future as well with Vettel and Newey
adamant on staying with them for the next season as well.
Driver of the year
Even though Vettel won the championship by defeating Alonso for the second time in his F1 career, the most common opinion of the F1 community including the twelve F1 bosses us that Alonso had clearly given the best driver performance of the year. He had
stayed strong from the very beginning of the season and kept the championship fight alive right until the end never failing to show his determination. Many believe that this was the best season of the driver’s F1 career.
