Shawfield hosted three thrilling heats of the Bettor.com Scottish Derby Trial Stakes on Saturday, March 24, 2012. Despite the fact that many high profile meeting held at the venue, the Scottish Derby Trial Stakes were highlight of the day.
Bettor.com Scottish Derby Trial Stake - Div C saw Caledonian Brae surprising 4-5 favourite, Starmount Jake. The 480 metres heat started off at 20:31 GMT.
G. Carmichael’s trainee maintained good standards all the way through. The black b***h began the show quite impressively and subsequently ran excellently in the middle.
Challenged by Citizen Rebel, she had no room to make mistakes. Kinloch Brae’s daughter out of Lerrig Lass rose to the occasion and finished the affair on an outstanding note.
Following her brilliant work right through the race, she managed to beat J. Brannan’s trainee by ½ of a length. The outcome was quite disappointing for Starmount Jake, who was the most preferred hound ahead of the start.
The black and white dog finished fourth, failing to end up among top three by a length’s margin. Bettor.com Scottish Derby Trial Stake - Div B was another upset for the bookies.
Cuil Hawk, who was carrying the odds of 8-1, stunned everyone by sealing top slot by two and a quarter lengths. His early pace helped him establish his dominance right from the beginning. The rest of the pack tried hard to challenge his lead, but all went
in vain.
The second slot was grabbed by Liosgarbh Champ, whereas Skywalker Louie missed runner-up place by a head distance.
Bettor.com Scottish Derby Trial Stake - Div A calmed down the bookmakers. It was an expected result, as the 7-4 favourite Mill Maximus defeated the rest convincingly.
The black dog ran exceptionally on inside rail of the track to stretch his advantage. K. Macari’s trainee stopped the clock in 29.25 seconds. The runner-up slot was secured by Droopys Cristian, who was crowded at the first bend.
Taylors Cruise troubled him right through the clash, but failed to deliver what was required to surpass him. As a result, he ended up third by three quarters of a length.
