Bettor.com Scottish Greyhound Derby back on track

April 2nd, 2010 - Bettor.com is pleased to confirm that the Bettor.com Scottish Greyhound Derby will resume tomorrow evening, following the postponement of the seven heats on the event’s first night due to adverse weather conditions. With the ante-post favourite already out in the first and only heat that has taken place, this Derby is already one of the most talked about in recent years.

Bettor.com is an open social platform for ‘as it happens sports conversations’, and unlike traditional search engines, allows all sports fans to participate in instant discussions in forms of questions and answers, reviews and live chat for matches or events.

PR Manager of Bettor.com, Jayne Clarke, says, ‘We are pleased that everyone has agreed to return for tonight’s heats. If anything, what has happened in the past week demonstrates how popular this competition is, and that everybody wants to be a part of it. A lot of effort has gone into this event from all parties, not only in the past few days, but over the year, therefore our thanks goes out to everyone for their continuous and unwavering enthusiasm.’

For 2010, Bettor.com is offering the £1m Triple Crown prize for any dog that wins the Scottish, English and Irish Derbys. ‘We are delighted to be sponsoring the Derby this year. Not only are we putting up the £1m jackpot but we aim to get everyone involved at every level at this event, from dog trainers to journalists and most importantly the fans so that blogs can be compiled and issues can be discussed. Our aim is to engage the fans to generate coverage of the event from every perspective, enabling and employing greater participation from everyone involved and providing an insight into every aspect. So, no matter what the weather throws at us, greyhound fans will still get the Derby they've been looking forward to,’ Jayne said.

The trials were held over a week ago at Shawfield Stadium. Shawfield Racing Manager Daniel Rankin says, ‘We saw some amazing speeds reached during the trials. This year’s Derby looks to be the most competitive ever with around 20 greyhounds having a realistic chance of winning. We would like to thank Bettor.com for the generous sponsorship of the Scottish Derby and supporting open race events which will make a great night of racing for all.’

The new dates for the Bettor.com Scottish Greyhound Derby are:

1st Round Heats - Saturday 3rd April
2nd Round Heats - Tuesday 6th April
Semi-finals - Saturday 10th April
Final - Saturday 17th April (Live on Sky Sports)

Jayne added, ‘Since Tuesday, overall activity and chat on our site has increased on the Derby as last week saw the betting market turned on its head following the surprise exit of ante-post favourite Jordansoilutions, which resulted in various debates on who will replace him, so the competition is still very much on!’.
