Bettor.com's amazing Premier league stats : week 9
As the premier league moved into its 9th week, there were some amazing statistics for all the 20 clubs of the top flight of English Football. This season of the premier league remains to be one of the most tough and competitive in years and has
given some intriguing statistics to leave us wonderstruck.
For the past 3 fixtures held at the DW Stadium between Wigan Athletic and Bolton Wanderers, the end result has always been a draw. Bolton has troubled many of the top sides in the premier league this season, but did not manage to
put low-lying Wigan Athletic away this weekend.
Newly signed Manchester United forward Javier Hernandez has managed to score
5 goals in all competitions. His brace against Stoke City on Sunday has taken his premier league goal count to 3 from 5 appearances. Interestingly, the player has scored thrice in 2 premier league starts and has all the potential of being
the next big thing at Old Trafford.
Stoke City have been rather unlucky this season as they have hit the framework of the goal
9 times so far in the league. Stoke striker Kenwyne Jones, who hit the post 4 times, seems to have favoured doing it more times than any other player in the league this season.
Wolverhampton Wanderers’ embarrassing 2-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea mean that the West midlands club have not managed a single clean sheet in the last
12 Premier league fixtures. Their opening day win against Stoke City remains the side’s only victory in 11 premier league fixtures this season.
Disappointing result for Fulham as the side’s most recent away defeat takes their shoddy away form to
23 matches without a victory. Their last away victory came against Portsmouth, on the first day of the 09/10 season.
West Ham United striker Carlton Cole’s blazing goal against Newcastle has taken his goal tally in the premier league to
38. Despite not scoring more than one goal in any match, the player holds the record of scoring the most number of first division goals.
Birmingham City’s impressive 2-0 victory against Blackpool ended their embarrassing
47 league match streak for not winning a match from more than one goal. Newly signed former Valencia striker Nikola Zigic has now scored twice in the last two premier league games.
Since his arrival at Chelsea 2006, midfielder John Obi Mikel has not scored
a single goal in 119 league appearances. The player has not scored a goal in the premier league, but struck twice in the league cup in his first year at the club.
Newcastle United’s remarkable victory against West Ham United this weekend marked their
250 premier league win. Youngster Andy Carroll found the goal in the dying moments of the match, despite West Ham United taking the lead in the 20th minute.
Sunderland’s shock 1-0 victory over Aston Villa was a good way to mark their
350th premier league match. Sunderland currently maintain a 7 match undefeated streak in the premier league, stretching from their draw against Arsenal a few weeks back.
