Betty Heidler marks a new world hammer throw record in Germany
2011 has been a lucky year for the athletes worldwide. Unlike 2010, which was marred by stringent punishments for the players suspected for using banned drugs, drop-out of some of the most favourite athletes who suffered from various injuries and other similar
glitches, so far the 2011 season has made up for all the last year woes.
It has observed, not only the return of many out-of-form athletes, lifting up of bans and the commencement of some of the most awaited athletic events, but has also observed some of the finest records in various athletic disciplines. One such record this
scribe will take account of is about the formidable hammer thrower from Germany, Betty Heidler.
Heidler, the 27-year old athlete, marked distinction in the sport for throwing 79.42m in a competition at Halle.
For emerging as the new world record holder, Heidler, the winner of the 2007 World title, outdid Poland’s Anita Wlodarczyk’s record of 78.30m. Anita had marked the record in 2010.
Heidler, the young girl who bagged the European title last year, went on to display an entertaining series. Starting from a remarkable throw of 77.19m, she went on to improve her own national record by 7cm. The next throw just missed the 77m mark and landed
at 76.98m. She claimed the world record in the third round.
For achieving this present state of excellence in the game, Heidler has been working hard since a tender age. The young girl, who actually belongs to Berlin, moved to Frankfurt at the age of 18 to pursue with her training under the supervision of coach Michael
Deyhle.
The consistent efforts made by Heidler to outdo her rivals started to pay dividends when, during her training in South Africa, she hit a 74.72m throw. But that achievement could not earn prominence as her compatriot Kathrin Klaas made a throw of 75.30m.
Kathrin’s Throw was being considered as the record throw until Heidler’s formidable throw marked her dominance once again.
Like it has been for many other athletes, Heidler’s present year in sports has been a good one for the athlete. After hitting 77 plus, she has been striving hard to maintain the high placed bar of her performance. Not only did she do well in the competition,
but all her throws after Saturday could be placed into the Top 60 throws of the competition.
Despite having already displayed a marvelous performance, Heidler is confident she can still go one step further. Talking to the media reporters after carving out the world record, she confidently said that she could still achieve better results.
Considering the efforts the emphatic hammer thrower is putting in her trainings, improving her record further is not a distant possibility for her. Now, how soon the girl’s resolve to do better materializes is yet to be seen.
