I have no idea if they were abducted by aliens but I do not doubt that something unusual happened to them. There is an updated book on this story

Betty and Barney real. Aliens I really have to say no. If we are being visited by alien they would have to live in our solar system, and there is no evidence to back that up. Space is just way to big to travel around in.
