Between Palo Alto and Monterey fun to do?

I am visiting Palo Alto for a couple weeks and I have a cousin living in Monterey that I haven't seen in a couple years. We want to get together and are trying to figure out some fun things to do that are in either place of in the middle. We are looking for one or a couple things that will take all day since we plan on spending the day together....i.e. national parks, beaches, etc. I have a 1 year old that will be coming along. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  1. if you like amusement parks theres the santa cruz beach boardwalk, six flags, great america, & raging waters. theres a lot of restaurants in downtown mountain view. carmel is a nice beach, if you go to half moon bay when the tides are low, theres anenomies, and octopi, & stuff. plus seafood restaurants. You can take a cruise to alcatraz in san francisco, theres the san francisco zoo, the oakland zoo, and a bunch of other stuff I can't remember... oh yeah, and the monterey bay aquarium

  2. Cannery Row in Monterrey. Go to the aquarium, check out the neighborhood shops, go to the arcade with the giant merry go round, and there's several good choices for restaurants (including the arcade!)  All this within a couple city blocks.

Roaring Camp and Henry Cowell are wonderful. Even if it's a warm day take a jacket. The temp can drop quick!

  3. So much to do, too much to list, theres Monterrey aquarium.

    =]

  4. Here are a few in the middle that might be good to met at and entertaining for the child.

Roaring Camp Railroad.  It has a narrow gauge steam train through the redwoods and another that goes to the beach.  There are also a number of special events.

Henryy Cowell Redwood State park is right across the tracks from Roaring Camp.  There is a short flat walking path that takes you through the redwoods.  Bring a flashlight.  There is one tree that is big enough inside that it was once used as a cabin.

Santa Cruz Beach and Boardwalk.  Beach, food, rides and games.

  5. I LOVE Monterey!  So much to see and do...kid friendly too!

    A few suggestions...

    Monterey Bay Aquarium

    Dennis the Menace Park

Paddle Boats at Lake El Estero

(adjacent to Dennis the Menace Park)

    Rent a Surrey Bicycle

    Beaches

    Cannery Row

    Fisherman's Wharf

Sometimes there is a little monkey here (right outside the the wharf)...give him a quarter and he'll shake your hand...give him a $1.00 and he'll pose for a picture.  And you can't come to the wharf without getting clam chowder in a bread bowl...Old Fisherman's Grotto is the best!  They have a fantabulous ice cream store here too.  Walk to the end of the wharf, look down and check out the sea lions and sea otters...so cute! Or take a tour on one of the glass bottom boats.

    Have fun!

  6. Monterey has tons to do that the baby would enjoy. There is the aquarium, the beach, Cannery Row (great restaurants)- there is also a park that is great but I can't remember the name or location- your cousin may know.

  7. Monterey itself is a great destination.  In between is Santa Cruz, with a fantastic old time beach boardwalk with great rides, attractions and beaches.
