My boss has volunteered myself as well as the other two women in our office to stand on the side of the street holding campaign signs. What would you do if you were in my situation? I live in Florida and August is the hottest month of the year. We are to be there from 11:30-1:00 and the heat index for tomorrow is above 100 with like 95% humidity. To avoid conflict everyone is just going to go, but my boyfriend is pissed and doesn't want me to hold a sign on the side of the street. I want to avoid conflict too but I will have it either way. I'm so confused and things haven't been going that great here at work anyway. I work for a construction company and with the economy slowing down we have less and less work. I am the only one in the office that does what I do but if we have no work there will be no need for me. I don't want to give them any more of an excuse to let me go. What is your take on the situation as I seem to be between a rock and a hard place.

  1. Its tough out there for everyone, I'm in NY and business is very bad for many companies. Being laid off now is the worst thing that can happen considering for the most part no one is looking for new help, so I think you should do as to what your limitations are and not your boyfriends.

If you decide to go campaigning, drink lots of water, (bring a cooler even) and bring an umbrella for shade.

  2. Maybe contact your department of labor and industry... If you boss is easy to talk to, let him know your concerns. Ask him since you will be spending some time away from your desk, how he would like you to reprioritize your work. It might get you out of it if he remembers what responsabilities you have inside. Might make your co-workers upset, but they are free to do the same thing.
