Between global climate change and high gas prices, are you more aware of your driving habits?

For instance, did you alter your Memorial Day weekend plans to stay closer to home? Are you driving less aggressively when you're on the road? Are you planning to sell your gas guzzler and get a more fuel-efficient car?

  1. NO unfortunately no.

I already get 55MPG through a very efficient vehicle and an optimum driving habit.

The distance between where I work and my family can not be reduced and I still want to meet with my family sometimes.

    The only options would be:

    - to change jobs

    - to build a new high speed train connection I could use

    - to open for me a new office closer to where my relatives are so I do not have to drive on the weekends.

  2. My wife works this weekend taking care of the home bound so we had no plans.  Has far as driving habits, I slowed down  because speeding tickets are to costly. Vehicles we purchased were based upon two things safety and fuel efficiency we chose Saturn's,and will be getting rid of one of them since  my wife was recently provided a automobile for work.    This weekend we do have plans to ride our bikes to a pub and grill this evening for dinner.   Its 5 miles one way and the trail has plenty of scenic views.   We don't do this because of global warming we do it because we want to, and we believe it the right thing for us.

  3. As long as U propagate GW the price of oil will rise.

  4. Quite. It has forced the change that I had been thinking about and planning about into a reality, especially due to the prices. I haven't driven in a week, but I have been out and about more than I have in a while because I've been walking and biking everywhere around town, picking up job applications, grabbing groceries, going to class, etc.

For memorial day, I'm driving (at 55mph) over to my parents house (15 minutes away) for the day.

  5. I don't buy into global warming.  It is a ruse to make money by politicians and opportunists.

  6. No.

For one, I don't understand this condescending attitude by politicians and environmentalist when it comes to saving energy. When I was a kid (I'm 42) my parents always got on to me about leaving a light on, or not closing the door when I came in the house (how many of you heard the phrase "I'm not heating/cooling the outside" or "were you born in a barn"?).

I was told to eat everything one my plate because "starving people would love to have what you have". I was told not to waste water...etc. and so on. I still tell my kids the same things. Who wants to pay higher electric or gas bills?

These pontiffs talk to us like we are children, while they live in mansions with heated pools and more bathrooms than I have total rooms (Right Al?). I forgot to add the fact that they must believe that we all fill our gas tanks just to drive aimlessly and for no reason other than to fill the tank up again.

Message to these know it all do gooders who think we all just leave our lights on 24/7, run the water 24/7, throw pork chops by the dozens in the trash cans: "Save your lectures for your own children, and I am not one of them".

  7. I drive less than I did before.  But it has nothing to do with global warming, since driving does not contribute to it.  It's only to save money since gas is now so expensive.  However, I have no doubt that the Al Gores of this world are ecstatic about the rising price of fuel (and the rising cost of everything else).

  8. I haven't changed my habits because I already conserved as much as possible, but I'm a little more aware of it.  I bike to work in good weather and ride my electric moped in bad weather.  I bought a Prius that my wife drives to work, and we both keep it down around the speed limit, going 65 mph on the freeway.  We also rarely take long trips.

I mostly think about it when I see cars speeding by me on the freeway going 80-90 mph.  I think how much gas they're wasting and how much extra CO2 they're emitting (not to mention the risks of driving so fast) just to get to their destination a few minutes earlier.  That bugs me.

  9. I have always been aware of my driving habits.  Climate change has nothing to do with it.  Fuel costs money.  I have things I'd rather spend it on, like New Zeland Lamb Chops.
