good question and i'm questioning my original answer.  however, if we're talking EGO, i have to believe its the guy.  

if we're talking about reassurance and feelings then it has to be the woman.

A man's ego is a lot more fragile than a woman's.Women are more prone to just leave it if it's not going their way,peacefully.Men...whoa...aren't.lol

Mens egos are famous for being demanding.  Women want their ego stroked just as much but they will live peacefully if it isn't.  Men won't.

The answer depends on what you consider the ego to be & how it is stroked.  Despite gender differences, men & women have the same *fundamental* needs & desires, but seek them through very different means.  If the ego refers to "obvious self-esteem & reinforcement", then men appear to have a bigger need to have their ego stroked.  But self-esteem & reinforcement can be more subtle, disguised through secondary intentions which may appear more altruistic & less selfish.  With this view of the ego, both men & women favor ego gratification, with women preferring this method as it is socially acceptable for them to obtain it this way.  When someone values her own helpfulness as a measure of her self-worth, the ego is still at work, as the same ultimate source drives the action.
