  1. I agree with hybird, my answer is also 50:50.

  2. They're kind of hard to compare, since they're not exactly on equal footing.  Tamagoyaki isn't exactly a meal in itself.  It's something I associate with a few pieces in a bento or something like that.  It is very tasty when well prepared.  Takoyaki is also very good, but it's like an entire meal or snack in itself, complete with condiments and other added toppings.  With katsuobushi, mayonnaise and things like that, it's going to be more flavourful than tamagoyaki.

Essentially, tamagoyaki is delicious for its simplicity.  Takoyaki is delicious for its complexity.

Both are delicious.  It depends on what mood you're in, and what type of meal you're eating each for.

  3. I am not sure exactly what tamagoyaki tastes like.. I LOVE takoyaki though. I recently gave some to my kids and they loved it too! DELICIOUS!

  4. It depends on each person's taste.

  5. When I was chef and worked at a Canadian based hotel in Tokyo, we would get both from street vendors at night, and in there 7/11 style store they have them in a warming case for you to pick up and garnish with the sauce, tamagoyaki is more an afternoon snack and takoyaki is an all day one, I liked it when I was a bit hungry and got off the subway and was on my way home to my share apaprtment, it was a quick snack and was so good you could eat more, but not low in calories, once you slap on the sauce and mayo they are not diet food, as for the tamagoyaki, there not as fattening but are rich and high in cholesterol.

  6. I prefer takoyaki but I love octopus.  So I guess it's personal preference:  octopus or eggs?
