Between the Dell XPS M1530, and the HP Pavilion tx2510us Entertainment Notebook PC, which is better for an eight grade student solely for school?

  1. Neither. They are both pretty poorly suited for that.

    You want a lenovo. Their main benefit is extremely long battery life, but they also have perks like turbo memory, which stores commonly used programs so that they open instantly, and it even does that for windows itself. Instant booting.

    They are good prices, and have much better hardware than either Dell or HP.

    If I was you, I would get the T400 with discrete graphics and equip it with the best monitor, turbomemory, 3gb of ram, and a 250gb hard drive, and the largest 9 cell battery. That would be about $1100, which is one of the best deals out there. It will hold its value much longer if you get the cheap extras like the graphics and high resolution screen. Those are not upgradeable, so you are stuck with what you buy originally. I am sure one of you will end up needing the graphics ability, everyone needs it once in a while, so you should definitely get it. If you dont, its going to cut the resale value in half.
