I know that the compartments flooded, but I need to know what funnels the ship broke at when it split in half before sinking.

  1. Between the third and fourth funnel.

  2. i believe it was between the no.1 forward and no.2 stack. if memory serves me correctly the titanic and her twin sister, the olympia, white star passenger liners, had a total of four stacks each.. if my knowledge of old ship construction is correct. the  rib and hull geometry left a flaw in engineering design just aft of the bow flare as the sides began to straighten out towards the stern.. the same  design flaw was discovered in the hastily built and converted liberty ships of ww2. numerous vessels fractured and sank until long heavy steel  reinforcement plates were welded in place on the sides to keep them seaworthy.

  3. The Titanic sank between the thrid and fourth aftermost funnels. This is where one of the weak expansion joints were, and was a catalyst to her breaking up. (This is also seen in James Cameron's film)
