Example:

He's used to waking up at 5.

or

He's used to wake up at 5.

I'm a 14 year old Indonesian, last week my teacher said "He's used to wake up at 5" I don't think it's right, or is it?

Thanks for answering.

  1. It would be "He's used to waking up at 5".

"He used to wake up at 5" is a past tense(it happened already). You probably heard wrong.

  2. The first sentence is correct.  (He is accustomed to waking up at 5.)

The second sentence is incorrect as written, but it is very close to a correct sentence with a different meaning.  Maybe your teacher actually said "He used to wake up at 5." (In the past he always woke up at 5, but now he wakes up at some other time.)  Just that little "'s" can make a big difference!  English is so weird!

    Hope that helps!.

  3. You are right it would be:

He's used to waking up at 5

    or

He used to wake up at 5 (habitual action in the past)
