Beverly Hills Handicap to have a rubber match between Malibu Pier and Cozi Rosie over $100,000 purse
June 26th, 2011, is going to have an energy packed entertainment for the horse racing community, witnessing the Malibu Pier and Cozi Rosie clash in the Beverly Hills Handicap.
The Grade 2 Beverly Hills Handicap is raced over the turf over a distance of ten furlongs.
Malibu Pier will be racing to ward off the tarnishing effect of her fifth place finish in the Grade 1 Gamely Stakes held on May 30th, 2011.
The Beverly Hills handicap has a purse of about $100,000 and is run over the turf surface at the Hollywood Park. It is going to be the eighth race on the nine-race card. The proposed post time for the race is 4:44 p.m. PDT.
The Spendthrift Farm chestnut filly will be competing against four fillies.
The race is to going to be a rubber match between the former rage machines of the Grade 2 Santa Barbara Handicap held on April 16th, 2011 and had Malibu Pier, trained by Carla Gaines, victorious by a half a length.
Malibu Pier is going to be a real threat to Cozi Rosie.
She defeated Cozi Rosie in the Santa Barbara Stakes, and now apparently Malibu Pier still has an edge over Cozi Rosie as she has been weighed to be one pound less than Cozi Rosie.
Cozi Rosie is the top weighted filly who will be carrying 120 pounds.
Malibu Pier has made ten starts and has been victorious in five of them. The daughter of Malibu Moon has been victorious in the Santa Ana Stakes held on March 19th, 2011, and her career earnings amount to $347,200.
Speaking of Cozi Rosie, the pleasantly perfect filly has won four of her eleven starts. She might be able to bring a third win for her trainer, John Sadler, who earlier was able to capture wins in 2008 and 2009.
Cozi Rosie was last victorious in the Grade 2 Beuna Vista Handicap which was held on February 21, 2011.
Before her win in the 1609m race, she was also victorious in the Grade 3 Senorita Stakes held at the Hollywood Park on May 2, 2010, with Mike Smith as her jockey in that race.
With these wins she was the chestnut filly who was able to accumulate earnings of about $307,280.
Cozi Rosie races for breeders Jerry and Ann Moss.
The other mares and fillies for the race include First Settler, Timezone, Restless Soul and Streamline Baby.
Restless Souls is also a challenging candidate for the Beverly Hills Handicap. This statement is made in view of the performance the seven-year-old bay filly made in the Gamely Stakes when she finished just behind Cozi Rosie.
She is owned by Matthew Cioros and receives training from Neil Drysdale.
