Beyond Desire to swing back to form in the Gordon’s King George Stakes
Seventeen three-year and above participants have turned for the Group 2 Gordon’s King George Stakes to bag away the £56,710 prize money back home. The race will be held over five furlongs at Goodwood on Friday, 3rd August. Some high profile entries
like Ortensia and Angels Will Fall are trying their luck in the race today.
Roger Varian’s under charge, Beyond Desire, is a dark horse among the line-up. She conquered the season by striking a back-to-back, but then fell off the winning composure during the third outing of the season.
Invincible Spirit’s five-year-old bay mare won the seasonal debut on 20th April, 2012 in the E B F And Whitsbury Manor Stud Lansdown Fillies’ Stakes (Listed Race) at Bath race course over five furlongs. She made a quick start when breaking from
the seventh gate and made all. With the last furlong still to be raced over, Beyond Desire was ridden clear and escaped defeat by the narrow head’s margin.
Finishing the closest behind the winner was, Caledonia Lady, while taking up the third slot was, Sugar Beet.
Winning the Class 1 listed race got her an entry in the Group 3 Prix De Saint-Georges (Turf) on 13th May, 2012 at Longchamp over five furlongs.
The bay mare out of, Compradore, made a strong start after breaking from the eleventh stall and made smooth progress over 2 ½ furlongs out with the edge over two lengths. Kept on gamely, but started losing the advantage inside the last furlong. Fell into
a deep contention with, Monsieur Joe, and edged past by a short head’s difference.
The Pinnacle Bloodstock bred shared the success with the ride, Jamie Spencer.
Coming at terms with the third position was, Calahorra.
Beyond Desire’s straight second graded attempt was in the Group 2 Prix Du Gros-Chene on 3rd June, 2012 at Chantilly over five furlongs. She lost the race to the tenth position in the field of eleven while the race was won by the favourite entry,
Wizz Kid.
The 12 to 1 entry will become the mount for jockey, Neil Callan, and the two have drawn the tenth gate.
