Bf is at Ft Benning ...?

My boyfriend is at Ft Benning. His actual Basic Training started yesterday (friday). But on Thursday night I had a voicemail message from him. He had called to say he was starting basic the next day and he would be writing and loved me,ect. Now he called from someone's cell phone. It was actually a local number where we live at. My bf didn't take his cell with him, he had it shut off since he'll be gone for 4 months. So how did someone else have a cell phone all the way up to the point of being shipped to sand hill the next day?? And yes my bf really is down there, he has already sent me letters from post mark from GA while he has been sitting in Reception. I just thought they couldn't have cells with them, so my question being, why did another dude have a cell phone still on at that point of their processing?

I concur with the other folks about someone sneaking in a phone.

Some posts do allow limited cell phone use at Basic, but I don't think Benning is one of them.

Your Boyfriend almost certainly met other folks at MEPS who were going to Basic with him.  All Soldiers who ship to the same training post on the same day ship together, and they usually hang out together at the hotel the night before flying out.

It could be that guy is just trying to sneak his cell phone in.   I've seen it before.  One guy I went to Basic with had his cell phone for 4 weeks before he got caught with it.  That's probably all it is.  Your bf must have a friend there from wherever you live.

It is possible someone snuck one in with them. He probably wasn't the only one from your particular recruiting area to go, so if they snuck a phone in, it would have your area code.
