this may not help, but babe is actually a nickname that can be used for many types of boys.

such as, if he was just your friend you could say it very casually in a conversation. but if he is your boy friend you could say it in a loving way. since this guy is a "total hotty" it can be used sort of seductively. So, i believe that babe does actually suit a guy like him.
