Bhutan v Japan – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cricket League Division Eight (Group B) – Match Update
Propelled by Alexander Patmore’s half-century, Japan secured a 60-run win (D/L method) over Bhutan in their ICC World Cricket League Division Eight Group B match, played at the Faleata Oval No 3 in Apia, today on September 17.
With the game having been affected by rain, both teams were granted 42 overs per innings. Japan won the toss and elected to bat first, opening their innings with Jarrad Shearer (3) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Naoki-Alexander-Miyaji-c78595 (6). The former was sent back to the pavilion early, trapped lbw by Lobzang Yonten (9-2-36-3) in the 3rd over.
Although he managed to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adrian-Roger-Kirshaw-Pierson-c42135 it out at the crease for longer, Miyaji consumed 44 deliveries for a meagre 6-run contribution. However, he did form part of a 2nd-wicket 35-run stand with Player of the Match Patmore (91, including 2 sixes and 6 fours), which got the team up to 40 by the 16th over, after which Dilip Subba (9-2-18-2) trapped Miyaji lbw to send him packing.
Subba followed it up with another dismissal, lbw – Daniel Mee on duck. However, Mee’s successor http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Masaomi-Kobayashi-c74997 (47) proved an effective partner for Patmore, and the two set up a 99-run stand for the 4th wicket, which got the team total up to 141 by the 35th over.
Kobayashi departed off Barun Wakhley, but Patmore soldiered on, setting up a 20-run partnership with Hanif http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 Muhammad (who was dismissed by Dampo Dorji after a 10-run contribution), and a 31-run stand for the 6th wicket with Kazuyuki Ogawa (16).
Patmore and Ogawa both fell prey to Yonten in the 41st over, and by the end of their innings, with wicketkeeper skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Takuro-Hagihara-c92654 (3*) at the crease, Japan posted a final total of 203.
Shoddy running, and the assaults of Hagihara (6.1-1-23-2) and Miyaji (5-0-29-2), did not allow Bhutan to come close to the target, and they were eventually cut off all out at 144. Only four batsmen – Bikash Luitel (13), skipper Jigme Singye (51), Phuntsho Wangdi (21), and Dorji (13) – managed to contribute double-digit scores, while the remainder of the batting order remained lacklustre.
Opener Kumar Subba was dismissed on duck, while sloppy running led to three dismissals via run out. Faltering under the force of the Japanese attack, Bhutan were unable to hold their own, and eventually finished at 144, enabling http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Japan-c2928 to clinch a 60-run win (D/L method).
