Bhutan v Maldives – Asian Cricket Council Trophy Elite 2012 (Group A) – Match Update
Bhutan’s unlucky run in the ongoing Asian Cricket Council Trophy Elite 2012 continued as they followed up a massive 312-run defeat at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Global Cricket Academy in Dubai on October 4.
Bhutan won the toss and elected to bat first, but the team was unable to do justice to their decision. Each one of Maldives’ six bowlers claimed at least one wicket each, while Mohamed Mahfooz (10-2-27-2), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ismail-c64603 Nihad (8.1-1-22-2), and Hassan Ibrahim (8-0-40-2) all took 2 each.
Bhutan’s openers Bikash Luitel (4) and Thinley Jamtsho (1) failed to apply themselves at the crease, and were dismissed, by Hassan Ibrahim and Mohotte Jayakody respectively, by the second over. While wicketkeeper batsman Tshering Dorji (20) registered a double-digit figure, he consumed 66 deliveries for his meagre total. However, he managed to stay firm at the crease while skipper Jigme Singye (5), Sanjeevan Gurung (4) and Suprit http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pradhan-c82439 (16) came and went.
Dorji was finally dislodged, trapped lbw by Mohamed Mahfooz in the 22nd over, and 4 overs later, Kencho Norbu (2) was dismissed by the same bowler in a similar fashion. Phuntsho Wangdi (30) and Sonam Tobgay (45), however, made a valiant attempt to revive the innings, setting up a 48-run stand for the 8th wicket.
However, their efforts went in vain as Abdullah Shahid swept in to take Wangdi out of the game, after which Lobzang Yonten (2) and Tobgay followed suit, with Bhutan finishing all out at 146.
In response, Maldives reached 150 easily, within 25 over and with just 4 wickets down, on the basis of a handful of solid partnerships, despite the efforts of Bhutan’s Wangdi (6.3-046-2).
Abdullah Shahid (4) and skipper Moosa Kaleem (7) remained mediocre – however, Kaleem managed to join wicketkeeper batsman Shafraz Jaleel (42) for a 31-run partnership, after which Jaleel teamed up with Player of the Match Mohamed Rishwan (54*) for a 57-run stand.
Their combined efforts got the team up to 99 by the 18th over, after which Jaleel was caught and bowled by Wangdi. However, Rishwan drove the innings forward, establishing a 12-run stand with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ahmed-Faiz-Mohammad-Noor-c42316 (10), followed by a final unbeaten 39-run partnership with Jayakody (13*), which got Maldives safely over the finish line, reaching 150 easily with 6 wickets and 153 deliveries still remaining.
