Bhutan v Oman – Asian Cricket Council Trophy Elite 2012 (Group A) – Match Recap
In what proved to be a completely one-sided match, a superb century from Zeeshan Maqsood, followed by a 6-wicket haul from Adnan Ilyas, saw Oman claiming a colossal 312-run victory over a hapless Bhutan team, in their Group A match during the ongoing Asian
Cricket Council Trophy Elite 2012, played at the Al Dhaid Cricket Village on October 3.
Oman won the toss and elected to bat first, opening their innings with Zeeshan Siddiqui (35) and Player of the Match Zeeshan Maqsood (199), both of whom set up a mammoth 131-run opening stand. Siddiqui was trapped lbw by Phuntsho Wangdi in the 23rd
over – however, Maqsood almost single-handedly drove the innings forward, teaming up immediately with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jatinder-Singh-c66512 (67) for a massive 201-run stand for the second wicket.
Their efforts got the team up to 332 by the 44th over, after which Singh was dismissed, lbw, by Jigme Singye (10-0-87-2), and Maqsood followed in the very next over, run out by wicketkeeper Kencho Norbu, frustratingly one run short of a double
century.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Vaibhav-Shridhar-Wategaonkar-c94848 (0) remained unremarkable – however, Amir Ali chipped in with a quick-fire 53* off 24, and his unbeaten 68-run partnership with Aamir Kaleem (15*) got Oman up to a staggering total of 415, with just 5 wickets down.
Bhutan were unable to muster up much of a response, and with Adnan Ilyas (8-0-33-6) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zeeshan-Ahmed-Siddiqui-c98579 (1.2-0-5-3) on the prowl, the team found themselves all out at a feeble 103 by the 22nd over of their innings.
Bhutan had barely gotten started when Ilyas swept in to dismiss top-order batsmen Kumar Subba (13) and Bikash Luitel (0) in the 9th over, following it up with the wicket of skipper Singye (4) in the 13th over. Opener Thinley Jamtsho
top-scored for the team with 42, but was run out in the 15th over by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Amir-Ali-c43991, leaving his side at 69 for 4.
From there onwards, Suprit Pradhan (20) remained the only batsman who managed to reach double-digits, while the rest of the batting order crumbled without putting up much of a fight. Ilyas took Sonam Tobgay (1) out of the game in the 17th over,
and followed it up with the wickets of both Norbu (4) and Dampo Dorji (1) in the 19th over.
Siddiqui picked up http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pradhan-c82439 and Lobzang Yonten (0) in the very next over, and finished the game with the wicket of Barun Wakhley (0) in the 22nd over, with Oman going on to claim a massive 312-run win.
The victory grants http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Afghanistan-c745 at Sharjah on October 4. Bhutan, meanwhile, will be playing Maldives in Dubai on the same date.
