Bi-amping and bi-wiring speakers to an av amp - are they the same thing? And how do I do it on my equipment?

  1. Bi amping is using a separate amp for the woofer and tweeter (and also a crossover).  You can't do that with your receiver and speakers too easily.

    Bi wiring could be done but I believe it is more of a gimmick that anything.  Bi wiring is running two sets of wires from the receiver to each speaker.  You are in effect "doubling up" on the speaker wire.  

    Your best bet is just to buy some good sturdy speaker wire and just wire the speakers normally.  12 or 14 gauge should do just fine.  Keep it simple.
