Biamonte's speedy duo Altius and Citius up for the Deputy Minister Stakes at Woodbine under usual rides
Trainer Ralph Biamonte will unleash his speedy colts in the $125,000 Deputy Minister Stakes at Woodbine on 27 July. Altius, the three-year-old colt, will accompany his other stablemate, Citius, who is also a three-year-old gelding. Both will perfectly complement
each other in the seven furlong sprint for the Ontario sired three-year-olds.
Altius looks to be in fine form and recently finished a runners up in an Allowance race on 6 July, 2011, over a distance of 6 ½ furlongs.
Partnered for the first time with jockey E Da Silva, Altius broke from the rail and switched to the middle of the pack.
The 3-year-old rallied hard with the leaders until he suddenly hung to give Lucky Lotto an opening to sprint past him to the wire.
Lucky Lotto is a monster of a horse, said trainer Ralph Baimonte. Altius was allowed to set slow fractions under E Da Silva and his rival grabbed on to the little bit of daylight he was shown.
Prior to the Allowance race, Altius and his stable mate Citius started off together in the Bold Ruckus, run at Woodbine turf on 11 June, 2011.
It was the first time Altius was running on turf while Citius had an opportunity to feel the turf prior to the Bold Ruckus.
Altius broke out well under usual jockey David Clark, setting a fast pace that primarily benefitted his stable mate Citius. Altius for much of the six furlong dash worked as a pace maker, identified by Citius’s ride, O Moreno, the pair surged past from fourth
position to hit the wire.
Altius finished fourth behind Forestador and Sinister Quill. Back in 2010, both geldings had an opportunity together to grab the Forest King Stakes on 3 November, 2010, but the speedy Altius sat up a fast pace like always, which suited Citius more than him.
Citius out ran his stable mate to beat him by a mere head. Trainer Ralph Biamonte has ample amount of confidence in Altius, which is supported by the way he is training in his work out sessions. He looks sharper than before, said Biamonte.
Citius on the other hand has won a lone race in all of his 2 year racing career, running six races in all. He has finished on the cards thrice, all second place finishes.
The colt came second in two Allowance races and once in his career starter, maiden special weight race on 6 September, 2010, on Woodbine synthetic surface under jockey, David Clarke.
Omer Moreno will ride Citius for the Deputy Minister Stakes on 27 July in the seven horse field.
The Biamonte duo will be weary of the unbeaten Mark Casse trained Queen Street Beach, who is definitely the favoured one for Deputy Minister Stakes.
