Bianca Botto undoes Carolina Zeballos in opening round – Copa Providencia BCI 2011
Peruvian Bianca Botto eases through a local tennis star Carolina Zeballos in straight sets at the Copa Providencia BCI 2011, a professional women’s tennis tournament and part of the ITF Women’s Circuit. She earned a 6-3, 7-5 win over the Argentinean to advance into the second round on Monday.
Ranked 319th in the Sony Ericsson WTA Premier Rankings, Botto clobbered an easy straight setter victory, setting up a meeting with the highest ranked player of the tournament. She is eyeing for her second year-to-date title after overpowering in one and half hour long marathon.
The highly positive Peruvian comfortably entered the Argentinean clay courts and after blistering forehands and backhands, she plucked in entire serves. Botto then capitalised on one out of three breakpoint opportunities in the eighth game and clinched the opener with a 6-3 success in almost three quarter of an hour.
Botto kept momentum rolling into the final set and easily swiped in the opening serve. She exchanged a break in the proceeding game and then kept remaining serves. The Peruvian then converted a breakpoint opportunity to her advantage in the last game and sealed the victory by winning seven games to five.
Overall, Botto brushed off five out of six breakpoints came across and capitalised on three out of seven breakpoint chances to her advantage. In addition to this, the Peruvian took full advantage of the several unforced errors and five double faults the Argentinean coughed.
The blooming Peruvian hasn’t had much progress at the start of the season but raised the bar of her game in June when she cruised to lift her second career title at the Mont-De-Marsan ITF event (trashed second seeded French Laura Thorpe in the title round). She then made a semi-final showing in St. Cugat and reached the last eight in Rosario and Benicarlo ITF events before participating in this tournament.
Next challenge for Botto is the winner of the match between top seeded American Julia Cohen and Chilean wild card enterer Cecilia Costa Melgar.
Second seeded Paraguayan Veronica Cepede Royg qualified for the second round earlier that day. She rallied past Austrian Tina Schiechtl in a three setter nail biter match on their first face to face.
Royg will next face Brazilian Maria Fernanda Alves who also required a three setter victory to reach this spot. The Brazilian recorded a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 victory over a local wild card enterer Fernanda Brito on their first duel.
